About the Pomodoro Technique
The Pomodoro Technique breaks work into focused intervals (traditionally 25 minutes) separated by short breaks, with a longer break after every few rounds. It reduces burnout and makes big tasks feel manageable. This timer tracks completed rounds and switches phases automatically; your settings are saved locally.
How to use Pomodoro Timer
- 1Start the focus phase, then pause, reset, or skip it when needed.
- 2Let the timer move automatically between focus, short break, and long break phases.
- 3Adjust phase lengths, the long-break interval, and completion sound in Settings.
Frequently asked questions
- When does the long break start?
- After the configured number of completed focus sessions. The default is every four focus sessions; skipping a focus phase also advances the completed-session count.
- Are timer settings remembered?
- Yes. Focus, break, interval, and sound settings are saved in this browser. The current phase, remaining time, and completed count are not restored after a reload.
- Will the timer stay accurate in a background tab?
- It calculates remaining time from an absolute deadline rather than only counting interval ticks, which reduces drift when the browser throttles a background tab.
- Why might the completion sound be silent?
- The sound uses the Web Audio API. Browser autoplay policy, a muted device, or a disabled sound setting can prevent it from being heard.
