Background removal uses an AI model to cut out the subject and output a transparent PNG. Enlarge is a high-quality Lanczos resample — it makes the image bigger without inventing detail that was never captured.

Can enlargement recover detail that is missing from the source?

No. The 2× or 4× mode uses Lanczos resampling and sharpening, not generative AI. It creates more pixels but cannot reconstruct detail that was never captured.
