About the screen recorder
The screen recorder uses the browser’s Screen Capture and MediaRecorder APIs to record a tab, window, or your whole screen — optionally with your microphone — and saves a WebM video you can download. Everything happens locally; no video is ever uploaded. Note that screen capture is a desktop-browser feature and is not available on iOS.
How to use Screen Recorder
- 1Choose whether to include microphone audio, then select Start recording.
- 2In the browser dialog, choose the screen, window, or tab to share and confirm any audio option it offers.
- 3Stop from Toolbay or the browser sharing control, preview the WebM recording, then download or discard it.
Frequently asked questions
- Can the recording include system audio?
- Only if the browser and operating system offer audio for the surface you select. Tab audio is commonly available; full-system audio support varies.
- What does the microphone option add?
- It requests a separate microphone track and combines it with the display tracks. If microphone permission fails, screen recording can continue without that track.
- Which file format is downloaded?
- The tool records and downloads WebM using the first VP9, VP8, or generic WebM configuration supported by the browser.
- Why is screen recording unavailable on my device?
- The feature requires getDisplayMedia and MediaRecorder. Some mobile browsers and embedded webviews do not expose screen capture.
