About zakat
Zakat is an obligatory charity of 2.5% on qualifying wealth held for a full lunar year, once it exceeds the nisab threshold. The nisab is the value of 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. Because metal prices change daily, this calculator asks you to enter the current price per gram; nothing is sent to a server. It is a helpful estimate — consult a scholar for rulings on specific assets.
How to use Zakat Calculator
- 1Enter cash, business assets, gold and silver weights, receivables, and liabilities in one currency.
- 2Enter current gold and silver prices per gram, then choose the gold or silver nisab basis.
- 3Review net zakatable wealth, the selected nisab threshold, and the 2.5% estimate when the threshold is met.
Frequently asked questions
- How does this calculator determine nisab?
- It multiplies your entered price per gram by 85 grams for the gold basis or 595 grams for the silver basis.
- How is net zakatable wealth calculated?
- The tool adds cash, business assets, receivables, and the entered gold and silver values, then subtracts liabilities. Zakat is 2.5% only when that net reaches the selected nisab.
- Does the calculator decide which assets or debts qualify?
- No. It applies the displayed arithmetic to the values you enter. Questions about the lunar-year condition, eligible assets, debts, or a specific ruling require qualified guidance.
